Associate professor at the Computer Science Lab (L3i)
at the University of La Rochelle (department of Computer Science), France.
Ph.D. of the Institut
National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) de Lyon In 2002, Muriel Visani graduated in mathematical engineering (engineer master) from the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées of Toulouse, France. The same year, she obtained magna cum laude a DEA (research master) in applied mathematics from the Paul Sabatier University of Toulouse. In 2005, she received her PhD in computer science from the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées of Lyon, France. Her subject was automatic face recognition from images using statistical projection-based methods. Her PhD directors were Jean-Michel Jolion and Christophe Garcia. In 2006, she joined the University of La Rochelle, where she holds an associate professor position at the Computer Science Laboratory (L3i). Since February 2007, she is the co-leader of the research team IMEDOC of the L3i. Since September 2008, she's in charge of the 2nd year (DECNUM) of the Master of Computer Science of the University of La Rochelle (department of Computer Science). Muriel Visani focuses her research activities on image analysis and recognition and especially the recognition of complex objects in images, enriching image description for better indexing and retrieval. Administrative and collective responsibilities National responsibilities: - Since 03/2010: Member of the governing board of the French Pattern Recognition Research Group (AFRIF) Local responsibilities: - Since 02/2007 : Co-leader of the research team I-Medoc - Since 09/2008 : In charge of the 2nd year (DECNUM) of the Master of Computer Science of the University of La Rochelle (department of Computer Science). 2005: Ph.D. Thesis of the Institut National
des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) de Lyon, Lyon Research Center for
Images and Intelligent Information Systems (LIRIS).
In collaboration with Orange Labs (formerly France Telecom R&D), under
the co-direction of Jean-Michel
Jolion (Professor, INSA de Lyon) and Christophe
Garcia (researcher, Orange Labs). 2002: 2006-now: Associate Professor at the
University of La Rochelle, FRANCE 2005 - 2006: Assistant professor (ATER) at the Applied Statistics Laboratory of the University of South Britanny, France. 2002 - 2005: 2002: Master Degree research training period (5 months) in collaboration with the Paul Sabatier University of Toulouse and Air Languedoc-Roussillon, under the supervision of Philippe Besse (Professor, Mathematics Institute of Toulouse).
